Maple Leaf Test Rides

The continuing saga of test riding a Supercycle SC1800 (Canadian Tire product # 71-1556)

km 3030-ish

Disassembled the BB last week and replaced fixed cup, bearings and grease. It runs somewhat more quietly now. Measured the spindle to be 68x122 and shall be replaced with a cartridge unit sometime down the road.

After having to apply two coats of SAE 20W oil to the chain last week, switched to MEC 'wet lube'. It seems fairly tenacious in the slushy stuff.

Noticing some cold weather idiosyncrasies such as the bell mechanism does not work well when mercury drops below -14C.

Also rear brake line must have H2O in it as it is also useless below -10C.

Also, front brake shoes make noise at around -12C (they are normally quiet above this temperature).

Other than that, same old story - procrastinating maintenance, rig rides OK.

This experiment is almost a year old now!

Nothing new to report. Still neglecting maintenance yet rig rides right.

Odometer ceased functioning for a few kilometers this morning, is working OK without even having to repair it. Speculating unit is cold temperature sensitive.

Same story as last post - neglecting maintenance, pushing through frozen temperatures, beast remains reliable steed.

Hard to read odometer as there is pile of snow on odometer.

The saddle is very cold to sit upon.

Rode yesterday evening in ball freezingly cold temperatures.

The rear brake line was completely useless, yet the rest of the system were adequate. Again the resiliency of this machine continues to astound. Again maintenance has been procrastinated.

Behind schedule on maintenance, yet wheels still go round.

Beauty day for riding, should be in the sunshine now....
